Staff roles and manager permissions

Set up departments and job roles, choose which roles have manager permission, and pick which POS actions need a manager.

  • Group roles into departments (for example front and back of house); labor reports total by department.
  • Mark each role for order access and manager access.
  • Under Manager Access Rules, choose which POS actions need manager permission: Edit POS App Settings (opening More › Settings, More › Payment Settings and More › Hours on the iPad), Apply Vouchers, Redeem Member Points, Customize Items/Modifiers and Transfer Orders.
  • Some POS actions always need a manager, whatever you tick: canceling an order, voiding items or a payment, discounts, refunds, editing a tip, time or price, the 86 Items screen, the Seating layout, and selling an 86'd item or one past its daily limit. Gift card discounts and clearing the printer queue ask for a manager to sign in even if one is already logged in.
  • A manager approves by signing in on the iPad. If the staff member logged in already has manager access, the POS doesn't ask.
  • If no role has manager permission, every employee can use manager functions; the screen warns you about this.
