Cash drawer and cash handling

Decide how cash is handled: servers keep cash and settle at clock-out, or cash goes in the drawer and card tips are paid out of it — plus the starting float and drawer counts.

  • Settle and Drop: servers settle cash at clock-out; managers can drop cash out of the drawer.
  • Fresh drawer each business day, or carry the balance until a counted reset (with a reminder after a set number of days).
  • Starting cash amount.
  • Map stations to drawer numbers. Stations not listed use drawer 1.
  • Turning on Settle and Drop, drawer cash handling or carry-over needs every POS used in the last 30 days to be on version 7.7.0 or later.
  • Station on the POS: each iPad picks its station under More › Settings › Register; the Cash Drawer row below it shows which drawer that station uses.
  • Drawer screen (Advanced Access, when any of the options above is on): Staff Self Service › Drawer shows the drawer's status, expected cash, and lets you take an Opening Count or a Closing Count by coin and bill. A closing count splits into Leave in drawer and Deposit, and can't be undone.
  • Reset reminder: when a drawer hasn't been counted past the set number of days, Staff Self Service shows "Drawer not counted in N days". Advanced Access staff get a Reset Now button straight into the closing count; others are told to ask a manager. It only reminds; sales and clock-outs carry on.
  • Cash Drop (Advanced Access, with Settle and Drop on): move cash from the drawer to the safe; the drawer opens when it's saved.
  • Opening the drawer: Advanced Access staff can tap Open Cash Drawer in Staff Self Service; turn on "Allow any staff to open the drawer" to let everyone do it from the sign-in screen.
  • Server settlements happen on the server report; see the server reports entry.
